Just watched Fresh Dressed written, produced, directed and masterfully imagined by Sacha Jenkins. Plenty of notable moments, paired with feelings of nostalgia and warmth.

Growing up in the South Bronx was extraordinary and something I wouldn’t trade for anything. Granted, my time in the hood was nothing like that which proceeded my seemingly privileged tenure there — the Bronx was no longer burning, gangs emulating the Warriors were no longer running the streets at all hours casting a universal—yet unofficial—curfew on the boro.

Seeing Hip-Hop grow up and expand is thrilling, but makes me feel like we might have lost a moment in time, a thing that once belonged only to us — the kids from around the way. Only we knew the excitement that came from seeing a cut-open fence, giving you access to a makeshift baseball field that on game days doubled as a Yankee Stadium parking lot. From Bodegas to Parasucos, we owned an entire era. It belonged to just us, and we’ll forever hold it dear.

Nowadays, thanks to the internet and its expansive reach, hip-hop is making its mark in the hearts and minds of youth all over. Brands like Daily Paper and Zanerobe are sprouting up from as far as Amsterdam and Australia, respectfully. Casting a wide net over what hip-hop/streetwear culture is and will become.
